Watching My Weight in Las Vegas

Weighed in this morning at 156 pounds.

The last four days was spent with my wife enjoying an extended weekend, first visiting an indian casino here in Southern California, and then the next three days up in Las Vegas. We got back home last night.

I tried to mitigate the impact of all the eating, mostly by eating lots of meat, some veggies, a little bit of bread, and no sugary desserts or fruits.

But I did drink lots of beer. I went to casinos that would comp you on beer as long as you played slots. And then, I managed to find a casino that not only did this, but offered some really good microbrews.

On top of that, I bought this software that teaches how to maximize my winnings on video poker. So, I managed to learn a lot from it and was able to stretch a $20.00 bill out for a couple hours. And in that time, I would drink down a few free beers.

Considering all that, the fact that I weighed in this morning at 156 pounds is pretty good.

Lost Three Pounds Yesterday

Weighed in this morning at 152 pounds, that's down 3 pounds from yesterday.

Crazy is all I can think, losing 3 pounds in one day.

I started yesterday with a grapefruit. Then I had 5oz of beef jerky, and a can of Low Sodium V8 Juice.

Then I went into my garage and changed the rear brakes on my motorcycle. That's a low impact exercise of pulling my bike up on to its center stand, and torquing off and on the bolts. I drank down two cans of Diet Coke after that.

Later on I had a small romaine lettuce salad with green salsa for dressing. After which, I had a regular sized bagel with margarine. Then in the evening I had 1oz of almonds.

I don't know what the calorie intake is on all that, I'm guessing about 1,000.

I didn't do any other exercise aside from working on my motorcycle.

I did, however, soak in a hot bath for about 40 minutes. I wondering if there's a lot more to that than I thought. I posted a new article about hot baths on Weight Loss Blogger. Go read it and see what you think.

First of all, soaking in a hot bath in the evening is something I've done since for as long as I can remember. My mother is from Japan, and this is something the Japanese always do. The bathtubs they have at home are not shaped like we have them in the USA. They're deeper, about 3 feet deep, and designed to hold about 3-4 people. At least, that's what I remember when I lived in Yokohama in the early 1970s.

Anyways, that's one reason why I take hot baths. But the other is because I knew the hot water will raise your heart rate, and that would burn some extra calories. But I think it must burn a lot more calories than that. It must also raise your metabolism considerably.

I mean, I know I have a high metabolism to begin with, but in order for me to lose 3 pounds in one day, I had to have burned 10,500 calories, at a minimum. And no way did I do that much exercise. So, either it's just me, which I doubt. Or there's something else that a hot bath does for the body.

Lost Two Pounds Eating Chocolate

Weighed in this morning at 155 pounds, down two pounds from yesterday.

I stuck to the beef jerky diet yesterday, somewhat. I had 3oz of beef jerky, and then about another 4oz of chocolate beef jerky. This company called "Chocomize" sent me three large sized bars of chocolate, two of them containing chunks of beef jerky. They wanted me to write reviews.

Anyways, I also had a pound of strawberries in the early evening. Add to that a bottle of water and a bottle of beer, that was all I consumed.

I actually didn't drink much liquids, just those two bottles, plus whatever liquid was in the strawberries. I figure the night before, I had countless helpings of beer. So I was trying to get rid of water.

The plan for today is more beef jerky.

Excess Eating Over the Weekend

Weighed in this morning at 157 pounds. That's up four pounds from last Wednesday.

Over the weekend I really let up on my diet. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I managed to get a lot of food and drink in me. It was a good time, hanging out with friends.

So this week I need to get back to my weight loss plan and head back towards my optimal weight of 150.

I have a lot of beef jerky here that I have to review. I also have these beef jerky chocolate bars that I have to review also. I'll probably do that today. That's a lot of sugar to put in me, but I don't plan on eating all the bars. But I still like the idea that companies send me this stuff.

Lost Another Pound

Weighed in this morning at 153 pounds, down one from yesterday.

I stuck to the beef jerky diet yesterday. I didn't drink any beer. I also had a package of strawberries, and I mowed the lawn for a bit of exercise.

It's funny, it seems like I'm becoming more of a beer drinker that I'm taking notice of the days I don't drink any. Not that drinking beer is bad, it seems to be the only alcoholic beverage that you can still diet with.

I'm shooting for another beef jerky diet day today, hoping to make it three in a row.

The Best Time To Weigh Yourself

Weighed in this morning at 154 pounds, down one from yesterday.

Yesterday I more or less stuck to the beef jerky diet. Here's a breakdown of what I did to lose that 1 pound...

Morning: 1 can of V8 Juice (70 calories)
Late Morning: 2.5oz of beef jerky (200 calories)
Afternoon: 1 can of V8 Juice (70 calories)
Afternoon: 3oz of beef jerky (240 calories)
Late Afternoon: romaine lettuce salad with salsa (125 calories)
Late Afternoon: 1 12oz bottle of Bud Light beer (116 calories)
Evening: 1 22oz bottle of Lagunitas Ale (250 calories)

Total: 1,071 calories

Exercise: none

I found that if do all my heavy eating earlier in the day, and leave the evening for light foods, or light eating, I tend to lose weight. Eating something heavy in the evening will almost always guarantee a weight gain for me.

I know it's often been said that when you eat really doesn't have an affect on weight gain, it's more so an affect on what the scale says early in the morning. That is, if you're going to weigh yourself, do it about 12 hours after your last meal.

But as it is, I always weigh myself after I wake up.

Well, I'm planning another beef jerky diet day today.

Gained a Pound from the Salad Bar

Weighed in at 155 pounds this morning. Up one pound from yesterday.

Yesterday, I had lunch at Claim Jumper, having a salad bar. I had a spinach, tomato, and cucumber salad, with turkey and pepperoncinis. They don't have salsa, so I put this tomato vinagrette on there, it had a lot of fat in it.

I also had a good deal of potato salad, macaroni salad, and cottage cheese. I also had three slices of garlic cheese bread. And then washed it down with two beers.

But as far as solid food goes that was all I ate that day. I did have three more beers throughout the day, however.

Otherwise, I spent most of the day riding my motorcycle. I didn't really exercise.

But I guess gaining one pound isn't too bad after eating all that. If I had stayed away from the potato salad, macaroni salad, and garlic cheese bread, I think I would have lost a half-pound, or maybe a full pound.

Lost One Pound After a Salad Bar

Weighed in this morning at 154 pounds, down another pound from yesterday.

Yesterday the wife and I went out for lunch to a Sizzler. I had the salad bar buffet. I started with a small spinach, tomato, and cucumber salad with salsa as a dressing. Then I had about 12 small chicken tacos (these are really small) with jalapenos, salsa and hot sauce. I had a diet soda to drink.

I left there feeling satisfied, but not stuffed.

But actually, early that morning I ate about 6oz of jerky. Then in the evening, I ate about 3oz of jerky, and two bottles of beer.

As for exercise, all I did was wash my motorcycle.

I also soaked in a hot bath for about 45 minutes.

I'm starting to think that soaking in a hot bath does something for the metabolism. As my body heats up, I can feel my heart beating faster. But I wonder if this cause the metabolism to run at a higher rate even well after the bath. It also helps me go to sleep, and I get a full night's sleep after taking a bath.

Eating Pizza and Losing Weight

Weighed in at 155 pounds this morning, down one pound from yesterday.

Yesterday, all I ate was a medium sized cheese pizza. I acquired this pizza from last Tuesday in Payson, AZ, while riding my motorcycle through town. I stopped there for lunch with my friends, and we ordered an extra-large pizza. Then we saw the poster advertising a free medium-sized cheese pizza if you buy an extra-large pizza.

So, I asked for the medium-sized cheese pizza.

But we never ate it, so I got a box to go.

I ended up hauling it around Arizona on Tuesday and Wednesday, until I arrived home in Southern California Wednesday night. Then I ate it the next day for lunch.

It was probably the world's longest pizza delivery.

I threw on extra cheese, some tabasco sauce and red pepper flakes. I didn't eat the crust because after nuking the pizza, the crust got really hard. I'm not sure how many calories that turned out to be.

Aside from two bottles of beer, two cans of diet soda, and a bottle of water, that was all I consumed that day.

And no exercise.

And still lost one pound.

Oh, and I soaked in a hot bath later that night. I think that contributes to some calorie burn by way of making your heart beat faster. But I'm not sure how many calories I can burn from this.

So anyways, you can still eat a pizza, drink beer, and lose weight.

Camping and Dieting

Weighed in this morning at 156 pounds.

The past five days I've been camping with some friends. We rode our motorcycles from Southern California to various campsites in Arizona.

I left Saturday morning at 155 pounds and gained only 1 pound over that whole camping trip.

And I didn't necessarily diet during the whole time. I drank a lot of beer, but only ate a moderate amount of food. In fact, none of us really gorged. There was only one evening when I ate a lot of food, and that was at a mexican restaurant in Sedona, AZ.

But I tried to make sure I ate something early in the morning, to get my metabolism started. Also, the whole trip was cold. Even though I had on a weather-resistant riding jacket, and a pair of thermal underwear, I was still cool, not warm. But my hands, were achingly cold.

Anyways, I think the cold temperatures throughout the day and night is what kept my metabolism burning fat.

Lost One Pound in One Day

Weighed in this morning at 155 pounds. Down one pound from yesterday.

Yesterday I went off the beef jerky diet. I had lunch at a Sizzler's, and ate several chicken tacos with jalapenos and hot sauce (I love hot food). I threw in some potato wedges. But I stayed away from anything with sugar.

That's pretty much all I ate yesterday. I was rather full from eating all that, and yet I managed to still lose one pound.

I didn't do any exercise yesterday, though I spent the afternoon working on my motorcycle, putting a new tire on.
