Lost Three Pounds in Four Days

Weighed in this morning at 161 pounds, down one pound from last Saturday.

Well, the truth is that I was actually up and down since last Saturday. Sunday morning I had weighed in at 164 pounds. That's because all day Saturday I had been out riding with my friends, drinking beers, diet cokes, and eating a salad in the afternoon, and carne asada tacos in the evening. I also mixed in some chips, salsa, and guacamole.

But I think that weight gain was mostly water from drinking all the beer and diet cokes.

Sunday I ate rather conservatively, going out to Sizzler with my wife and eating salad. I piled up a lot of spinach, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and topped it off with pico de gallo in lieu of dressing. Then I had some slices of pineapple, and a couple glasses of diet coke. I actually didn't drink much that day, because I had gained weight on Saturday from mostly water.

Oh and both Saturday and Sunday I still did my exercises, 2-mile jogs in the morning, and several reps of push-ups, sit-ups, crunches.

The irony is that I went four full days (Thursday through Sunday) without eating any beef jerky, and yet I still had a net loss of 3 pounds. So once again, it proves the beef jerky is actually a small part of the diet. Otherwise, it's all about making the right food choices, controlling the urge to eat, and getting a lot of exercise.

But I don't want to down play the part about "controlling the urge to eat". It's obviously not something we can do easily. It took me a few years to train myself to avoid snacking. But the advice I can give someone on that, is to keep yourself busy. Create a list of things to do when you start feeling bored. I can do yard work, I can do exercises, I can ride my motorcycle, and I imagine there are things around your house that need to get done. As long as you keep your mind focused on something, you won't think about eating.
