Plotting a New Jogging Route

Weighed in this morning at 168 pounds. No change from yesterday.

I stuck to the beef jerky diet yesterday. I had 7.5oz of jerky, three bottles of water, two bottles of Fruit2O, and a bottle of Propel Water. I also had my serving of kefir in the morning.

Exercise-wise, all the usual stuff. 2 mile jog in the morning, 1 mile walk in the evening, and two sets of push-ups, sit-ups, and crunches. I also did more weed-pulling and tree trimming in the backyard.

I also changed up my morning jogging route. It did it after a discussion with my wife. I was telling her about my progress with sit-ups and push-ups, and she blurted out about doing pull-ups (chin-ups or whatever they're called). I said I didn't have any place in the house to do them, and she immediately pointed out the chin-up bars in the park.

The park is just a couple of blocks away, and indeed there are chin-up bars there.

So I got on Google Maps and figured out another 2 mile route that would take me to the park half-way through the route. I did that route yesterday morning.

Sorry to say, I could only muster three chin-ups. But I guess I have my work cut out for me.

But after a week of doing push-ups, I've managed to progress to doing 12 reps, up from the 10 reps I was only able to manage when I started.

The sit-ups and crunches are a different story. I'm struggling with doing them properly. I keep finding myself using momentum to carry me upwards instead of using my muscles. I'm also doing cross-over crunches, where you touch your left elbow to your right knee, and vice-versa.

Funny, all this exercising reminds me of the time when I was just 5-6 years old. My dad would teach me about "calisthenics". Does anyone still use that word? He was still rather fit and trim in those days, and used to run marathons. We did jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, and went jogging together.
