Feeling Much More Alive

Weighed in this morning at 171 pounds, no change from yesterday.

I did my morning jog and run today.

I tried to stick to the beef jerky diet yesterday, even thought it was supposed to be my non-diet day. However, my wife decided to cook up a turkey dinner, and so I couldn't refuse, considering the effort she went into.

But, at least I didn't gain any weight from it, which I chalk up to the exercise.

One interesting observation I've made since having lost about 50+ pounds on this diet regimen, is that my pulse is much stronger. I remember back in my college days, when I was lighter yet, I could feel my pulse just by touching my neck lightly. When I ballooned up to 240 pounds, I could no longer feel that pulse.

So now here I'm down to 171 pounds, and I can feel that pulse again, quite easily. In fact, I can sit still and let my hands rest free, and feel the blood pulsating in my fingers. I couldn't feel that before.

Lemon Water vs. Diet Sodas

Weighed in this morning at 171 pounds, down one from yesterday.

I did my morning exercise, jogging for 1 mile, and walking 1 mile.

I just need to lose one more pound to reach my goal of 170 for the end of this week.

Today is supposed to be my non-jerky day. But I'm feeling inspired to hit that 170 mark, so I'm debating on sticking to the jerky.

I'm still drinking a lot of diet sodas, but I've also been incorporating a lot of bottled water lately. The stuff actually tastes good to me :)

But what I've also done is squirt in some lemon concentrate, which adds just enough flavor. I'll do one squirt into a typical 16oz bottle. I got the idea after reading about probiotics. Probiotics is the "beneficial bacteria" that yogurt provides, particularly the Dannon Activia I've been drinking lately.

Anyways, I found some articles saying that pure lemon juice helps clean out the liver, and considering all the beer I've been drinking these days, I could use a clean liver.

But I'm also left wondering if there's anything in diet sodas that somehow makes weight loss more difficult. Maybe there's some kind of ingredient that slows down the metabolism, or supresses a hormone, or who knows what. So, I'm toying with the idea of not drinking anymore diet sodas, and sticking to the lemon water.

Slowly but surely, I'm turing into a health freak.

Lost Four Pounds in Three Days

Weighed in this morning at 172 pounds, down four pounds from last Sunday.

The past three days I've managed to stick to my diet plan.

Sundays are still designated as a "normal food" day, which my wife and I indulged in some sushi and japanese food. I didn't eat anything else that day.

Both Monday and Tuesday I stuck to the beef jerky diet. Although, I didn't exercise those two days, so, go figure how I managed to lose four pounds over that three day stretch.

But this morning I did go out for a 3/4 mile run with a 1 1/4 mile walk.

So today I have another beef jerky day, with Thursday a "normal food" day, and Friday is back to the jerky. I'm hoping that I can finish out this week slimming myself down to 170 pounds.

Wine & Dine Dieting

This morning I weighed in at 176 pounds.

Yesterday, I weighed in at 174.

So after my last post on Friday, I made a roast beef sandwich with cheese and green chiles, and that was all I ate that day. I didn't exercise, and all I drank was water and some diet sodas. That took me down the 174 pounds for my weigh-in Saturday morning.

Then Saturday, my buddy and I rode our motorcycles to Coronado through some back roads in San Diego County. We stopped at a store in Lyons Valley for some drinks, and then had lunch at the Ferry Landing on the island. I had pork tacos, and two bloody marys.

That evening the two of us ended up at Longshadow Ranch Winery in Temecula for their bonfire. I had about 4 glasses of wine, some cheese, some grapes, a half sandwich, some apple slices, and a couple of rice-krispie treats.

That took me to my 176 pound weigh in this morning.

So this morning, I did a 3/4 mile jog and a 1 1/4 mile walk. I threw some strips of beef that had been marinating for two days on the BBQ grill, hoping it will turn into some killer beef jerky later in the evening.

And now the wife and I are ready to head out and grab some Sunday brunch.

Rollercoaster Dieting

Weighed in this morning at 177 pounds, up four pounds from yesterday.

Yesterday I was off the beef jerky diet, and ended up spending that evening at the bar with some friends. I had three beers, two Diet Cokes, and a half-pound bacon cheeseburger with fries.

But this morning, I still did my walk and jog, and actually jogged a whole mile. That's getting better, considering I haven't jogged that far since high school.

The Dannon Activia still seems to be working, as evidenced this morning.

I also discovered I have WAY too many oversized t-shirts. In my closet I counted something like 30 XXL t-shirts, and about 30 XL t-shirts. At current size, I'm wearing size L, and I only have 3 such t-shirts.

I need more t-shirts, but I don't want to spend money on clothes. I tried shrinking some of my XL shirts several months ago, by washing and drying them in hot water. They shrunk a little. But if my goal is to get down to 150 pounds, I'm just going to need more shirts.

Dannon Activia and Beef Jerky

Weighed in this morning at 173 pounds.

Over the past month since my last blog post, I've been going up and down in weight from as high as 180 to as low as 175.

For the most part, it's been a struggle to stay on the beef jerky diet. I'll spend most of the day sticking to the diet, and doing some exercise. But later in the evening the urge to snack grows so strong, that I've been dipping into some chips, ice cream, and cookies.

This current 173 pounds matches the weight from June 13 of this year. Mostly it's due to employing sheer willpower to lose weight. I noticed that recently I've eaten most of my jerky during the day, leaving me hungry at night. So instead I moved my last bag of jerky towards the evening, around 7:00pm to 8:00pm. That seems to have helped.

As far as exercise, I've been jogging more. The past week I've jogged about 1/2 mile everyday, whereas before it was about once every few days.

Dannon Activia

I tried substituting the V8 vegetable juice with this stuff. Part of the reason for using V8 in the first place was to provide some fiber, since a beef jerky diet has no fiber in it all. But, V8 is high in sodium, and I'm already getting too much sodium from the beef jerky.

This Dannon Activia claims to do a better job of keeping you "regular". So, I'm drinking a bottle each evening. So far, it's working.

My brother gave me the inspiration to try this. He actually posted some photos on making homemade "kefir", which is comparable to yogurt, but even more hardcore in terms of bacteria culture. So I did some googling on kefir, and learned that it's supposed to do really well in keeping you regular, and blowing all the crud out of your guts.

I couldn't find kefir at my grocery store, but found this Dannon Activia instead. I don't think it's anything close to kefir, but it makes similar claims that people say about kefir.

And it's tastes just like yogurt, and it's not bad at all.
