Diet Log - May 30, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 200 lbs, no change from yesterday.

Yesterday I rode the motorcycle up to Idyllwild, CA and ended up with a bacon cheeseburger. I know, I couldn't resist. It came with sweet potato fries. Those were good! I had a Coke.

Today is another beef jerky diet day.

While in Idyllwild I stopped at a beef jerky shop. They sell the "House of Beef Jerky" brand, which you tend to find at every tourist town. That stuff is expensive. I've also had it a couple times before, and every time it was hard. I bought it because I wanted to offer a review for it, being it's a brand many people have seen.

Saturday and Sunday I'll be doing an overnight ride up to Santa Maria and back, probably something like a 600 mile ride. Those are my non-diet days. I'm sure I'll be stopping at pubs and bars along the way, and put on a few pounds as a result. I hope I can get down to 198 lbs by tomorrow's weigh-in.

Diet Log - May 29, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 200 lbs even. Down another pound from yesterday.

Well, I wanted to hit 200 lbs by the end of this month, I suppose I did that. However, there are two more days of regular eating (today and Saturday), and one day of dieting (Friday), before the month is over. So I'll wait until June 1 to see where my weight is before I can say that I hit my goal.

Check out my latest review for Ju Ju Jerky - Spicy Turkey. That brand has thus far earn "best" ratings from me for both varieties that I've reviewed. I wrote to them via e-mail, and told them that, and they said they're going to send me some other varieties to try out.

Yesterday I also did a 2 mile walk with the dogs.

As I said above, today is my non-diet day. I normally head out on the motorcycle and meet up with some friends. I'm going to keep pushing on with the salads (unless temptation gets the better of me).

Diet Log - May 28, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 201 lbs, down another pound from yesterday.

Yesterday I stuck to the beef jerky diet, eating some Pacific Gold Beef Jerky - Teriyaki. Not very appetizing stuff, but free of sodium nitrite. This brand comes in an 8oz bag, but I ended up eating about 5oz of it, and gave the rest to the dogs. It didn't taste that bad; I just wasn't in the mood for more.

I plan to stick to the beef jerky diet again today.

Yesterday, the wife bought me a new pair of jeans, a waste size 38, instead of the 40 I've been wearing. I haven't tried them on yet.

I'm shooting for 200 lbs by the end of this month.

Diet Log - May 27, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 202 lbs, no change from yesterday.

Yesterday, I took a ride with my friends to a fish shack in Carlsbad, CA. I had a shrimp salad, a cup of clam chowder, and a Pepsi. That's all I ate for the day. No exercise.

Today, I'm going to stick to the beef jerky diet.

I've told some friends that I've lost some weight already with this diet regimen of mine. They all sound supportive, albeit amused by the "beef jerky diet". I tell them it's the "manly way to diet".

I can already tell that some of my t-shirts feel more loose now. I have some t-shirts that were smaller than the normal "extra large" sizes, and thereby fitted tightly around my gut, emphasizing its girth. Now, they fit more loosely. I'm wearing t-shirts I haven't worn in a long time.

Sodium Nitrite Free Beef Jerky

I mentioned this in a past diet log, but I wanted to say it again.

I'm compiling a list of sodium nitrite-free beef jerky brands on my beef jerky review blog here...

If you're looking for beef jerky with no sodium nitrite, look for packaging that says, "no preservatives", or "all natural ingredients". It's not guaranteed that it will be free of sodium nitrite, but most often it will be.

Generally, sodium nitrite is not that harmful if you eat beef jerky in limited quantities. But if you're going to eat a lot of it as part of a diet regimen, then you should stick with beef jerky that doesn't have it in it. It has been linked to colon cancer and lung disease.

Diet Log - May 26, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 202 lbs. That's down 3 lbs from my last diet log on Thursday.

Last Friday I stuck to the beef jerky diet. Read my review of, "Ju Ju Jerky". That stuff is awesome! It's got a lot of taste, moist and tender, and best of all, no sodium nitrite, and I found it my local Albertson's grocery store.

Saturday I took a ride on the motorcycle with some friends, and had a late breakfast with them, a salmon omelette, potatoes, english muffin, and a Coke. We headed over to Stone Brewery afterwards for a tour, and I had 2 beers.

Sunday, I took the wife out for lunch at a sushi restaurant. I filled myself up with plenty of rice and fish. Only had iced-tea to drink, no sugar. We headed over to San Diego Wild Animal Park, and spent the day walking and standing in line.

Today, being Memorial Day, and my friends having the day off, I'll probably go motorcycling again, so I won't be on the beef jerky diet. Instead of eating burgers and pizzas, I'm going to try to start eating more salads. I gotta get me some veggies; I hardly eat any of that stuff now.

Technical note: I moved this blog over to Blogger's server yesterday. I've had trouble with my other server, FTP issues, that has prevented me from updating this blog more often.

Diet Log - May 22, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 205 lbs, down one more pound from yesterday.

Yesterday I stuck to the beef jerky diet again, this time on a bag of Pemmican Beef Jerky - Teriyaki.

I've had Pemmican brand before, and I don't like it. It has something of a rancid meat taste, with lots of salt, perhaps to mask the stale meat. That might be the last review of Pemmican you'll read on my beef jerky review blog.

No exercise yesterday, except for mowing the lawn. I did another 30 minutes of sweating in a hot bath.

Meanwhile, I'm getting close to punching a new hole in my belt. I'm on the last hole, and it's starting to feel loose.

Today is the day I normally head out for a motorcycle ride with some friends. I'll be eating a regular meal today.

I may start focusing on beef jerky with all natural ingredients, or jerky made by small shops, because I want to put more effort into finding beef jerky with no sodium nitrite. Most jerky manufacturer's don't list their ingredients on their websites.

Diet Log - May 21, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 206 lbs. Down 1 lbs from my last Diet Log on Thursday. But in truth, I had actually went back up to 210 lbs over the weekend.

Yesterday I stuck to the beef jerky diet. Read my review of Oh Boy! Oberto Hickory Beef Jerky. I also did 2 mile walk with the dogs, and did some sweating in a hot bath for about 30 minutes.

I'm also done eating all that honey baked ham. I actually gave it to the dogs, because it was getting gooey.

Last Saturday, I ate more than I ever had in the past couple of months. I started the day going to a chili-cook off, and ate enough samples to fill myself up. I also had a beer. A few hours laters, a friend and I went to a mexican restaurant, and I had three margaritas and some chips and salsa. That evening, I went to a house warming party, and ate a burger, hot dog, potato salad, a cookie, and four bottles of Mike's Hard Lemonade.

I actually put on 3 lbs as a result of that, which I think was mostly fluids. All that took me up to 210 lbs.

Sunday, I ate less. I only had a roast beef sandwich, a beef shiskabob, and a bottle of sweetened iced tea.

So because of that, I didn't eat much on Monday, only a few more pieces of that honey baked ham, and water. And then the beef jerky diet and exercise, brought me back down to 206 lbs.

Diet Log - May 15, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 207 lbs, down another pound.

I managed to stay on the beef jerky diet Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Yesterday I had a bag of "Wal-Mart Peppered Jerky". I didn't exercise yesterday, but I did mow the lawn.

I'm still having a couple pieces of ham each morning, probably about 6 ounces, trying to eat it up before it spoils. I pull off as much fat as I can and toss that to the dogs.

Today is also Thursday, my usual day to hook up with some friends and ride motorcycles. As such, today is a "normal food" day. It's looking like that's going to be the pattern for me. Beef jerky diet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, and a normal meal, Thusday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Saturday is going to be a killer. I'm planning get together with some friends and visit a chili cook off. I'll be sampling lots of chili. Later on that same day, I'm attending a house-warming party. I'm sure I'll be tapping into the beer and whatever munchies people bring over.

Diet Log - May 14, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 208 lbs.

Well, it's been a very trying week, that's about how I can summarize it.

I said the last time that my wife sliced up this honey roasted ham, and I've been trying to eat it up before it spoils. So, I'm still eating a few pieces in the morning, and then eating a bag of beef jerky towards the evening.

On a couple of days, she cooked up dinner for me. I didn't really want her to do this, because I had planned to stick to the beef jerky diet on those days. But how can a guy say "no", when his wife cooks a meal for him? Complicating matters is that we have left overs too, and I had to eat that stuff before it spoiled.

Then there were my usual off days, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, where I hook up with my friends to go riding, and hang out at the local eateries.

But Monday and Tuesday, I did stick to the beef jerky diet, and today I plan on doing so also. Read my last two reviews on Best Beef Jerky.

Yesterday, my wife asked me if I wanted anything from the fast food joint, I only said, "Diet Coke". She came home with a regular Coke instead. I commented about it, but she ensured that she verified with the order taker that it was diet.

I guess fast food joints don't hire reliable people anymore.

Diet Log - May 6, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 208 lbs, down 2 lbs from yesterday.

Yesterday, I stuck to the Beef Jerky Diet, sort of. I had a small bag (1.7oz) of Jim Beam Beef Jerky - Barbeque. And just water to drink. I walked the dogs for about 4 miles, and soaked in a hot bath afterwards.

What happened yesterday is my wife thawed out the Honey Baked Ham she had in the freezer, and sliced it all up, and put it in the fridge, and told me to eat it before it goes bad. Ok. She bought this ham for last Easter, but ended up doing something else, so she kept it in the freezer.

So I now I have all this ham I have to eat. Well yesterday, I had two slices to go with that small 1.7oz bag of jerky.

I think what I'll do is I'll just eat ham today and tomorrow, which will kinda be like the Beef Jerky Diet. And continue the same exercise regimen.

NOTE: on my beef jerky review blog, I'm now going to display a photo of the "nutrition facts" so you can see the calories, sodium, fat, carbs, and all that yummy stuff.

Diet Log - May 5, 2008

Weighed in at 210 lbs this morning. Up 3 lbs from Friday.

Friday I stuck to the Beef Jerky Diet. Read my review of "Alien Fresh Jerky - Teriyaki". I had just one can of V8, and a couple of half-liter bottles of water. I also walked the dogs for 4 miles.

Saturday, I took a motorcycle ride with some friends out to Pioneertown. Ended up having a catfish sandwich, fries, and three beers. Then stopped at Killarney's Irish Pub for another beer, and helped my wife eat some cheese fries (with ranch dressing). No exercise that day.

Sunday, I took another motorcycle ride my friends up to Mt. Baldy Lodge, and had a hamburger, fries, and a Coke (plus one refill). Stopped over at a friend's house, and had two glasses of his home brewed beer. No exercise that day either.

So, I guess I'm going to have to spend this week trying to burn off that stuff, and see if I can get to at least 205 by Saturday morning. I'll see if I can do Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on the Beef Jerky Diet, straight.

Diet Log - May 2, 2008

Weighed in this morning at 207 lbs. Down two more pounds from yesterday.

I sure enough had that pizza yesterday. It was a small pizza, with canadian bacon, onions, olives, and jalapenos. I also had what amounted to 5 cans of coke. But that was all I consumed that day.

I tried to make up for that pizza and coke by walking the dogs a little more farther than normal. I did about 4 miles. For about a 1/4 mile of that walk, I actually jogged. I can't remember the last time I jogged!

After a walk like that, I like to soak in a tub of hot water. I find that it really relaxes the muscles, and produces a good sweat.

I don't know exactly what sweating does to burn calories. But it's always a good thing when you can eat pizza and 5 cans of coke, and still lose two pounds.

This morning, my wife tempted me by asking me out for breakfast. I wanted to, but I remembered writing on this blog yesterday that I'd stick to the beef jerky diet today, and I wanted to get another review published. So, I said "no thanks".

So that's one good thing about writing this blog. By attracting a loyal audience, and being truthful in these diet logs, it's like having a second conscience to keep you on track.

Diet Log - May 1, 2008

veggie trayWeighed in this morning at 209 lbs, down another pound.

Yesterday, I ate this medium-sized veggie tray, containing only 5 servings, that my wife bought a week or so ago. I needed to eat it before we wasted money on it. I ate it plain, no dips or dressings, or anything. And then just had water to drink. That worked out to 125 total calories, and 25gm total carbs. Zero fat.

I also walked the dogs for a couple of miles.

Today, I'm planning to get out of the house and do some motorcycle riding with a couple of friends. I've really a longing for Pizza Port, a really good pizza joint in San Clemente, CA. It'll probably add another 3 pounds back on to me. But I'll try to do another couple miles of walking later in the afternoon.

Tomorrow, I'll stick to the beef jerky diet. I need to get a new review published on Beef Jerky Reviews. I've got one more package of Alien Fresh Jerky left. Oh Man! Really good stuff there.
